Clubhouse for Golf & Fishing Club in Castlegregory

Requirements
The proposed clubhouse is located on the edge of a Candidate Special Area of Conservation between the beach at Stradbally on Brandon Bay and Loch Gill. The proposal required comprehensive environmental design elements in its construction methods, to ensure that the Clubhouse would not interfere with the sensitive location.
Project
The concept design prepared by WRPD took cognisance of the visual sensitivity of the unique landscape and created a development that has no discernible feature when viewed from the public roads and vantage points whilst presenting a contemporary, visually attractive structure when viewed from within the golf course. The design incorporates grassed screening mounds to the elevations visible from the public road and glazing, smooth render and stone on the elevations facing the course with an olive green metal clad roof camouflaging the roof into its surroundings. This innovative and original design demonstrates WRPD's capacity, understanding and it's use of smart planning and design that it applies to it's projects. In this project WRPD directed their ecological associates to prepare an Appropriate Assessment Report to establish the environmental and ecological issues associated with the adjacent Lough Gill, consequently WRPD introduced additional measures in it's method statement to ensure that the proposed construction would not adversely impact on the wintering Birds on Lough Gill. As part of this project WRPD liaised with the National Parks & Wildlife Service and Kerry County Council directly. WRPD secured an environmental engineering associate to establish the hydrology and soil make-up of the Golf & Fishing Club site and consequently proposed a wastewater treatment system suitable to protect the ground and surface waters from pollution as a result of the proposed development.
Outcome
Planning permission was granted for the proposal by Kerry County Council within the minimum timeframe and WRPD has received instruction from the Club members to assimilate its design team and proceed to tender with the project.
Mike Keane of Castlegregory Golf and Fishing Club said "Warren provided a superb design exceeding our expectations and co-ordinated all the ecological and environmental matters associated with our location here on Loch Gill. We're absolutely delighted that the planning went through".
